Talk of “purpose”, “sustainability” and business as “a force for good” – it is for real or just rhetoric?

The common ground between those who believe in the impact of purposeful business and those who question it, is a desire for authenticity; the recognition that we need to move beyond the rhetoric of purpose towards embedding it meaningfully and consistently across businesses.

We need an honest discussion about how this can be done, recognising where progress is being made and where actions are falling short.

Join an invited audience of 300 professionals and practitioners working to embed purpose authentically within business. Engage with peers from leading global companies, civil society and government who are pioneering new ways to harness companies' products, services, value chains, and voice to have a positive social impact.

This one-day event, supported by GSK, Unilever and Visa, will combine inspiring plenaries with practical deep-dive knowledge zones focused on: purpose, corporate social innovation, women's equality, economic opportunity, human rights and partnerships.

The event will be preceded by a Welcome Dinner on 10 July at the beautiful St John's College.

SUMMARY AGENDA
Embedding Purpose Plenary

Inspiring individuals at the cutting-edge of embedding purpose within business share their perspectives on how this is enhancing business performance and social impact. Hear about what is working and what can be done where current efforts are falling short.
Speaking with Purpose Plenary

Companies and their CEOs are increasingly using their voice and influence to seek progressive policy change and a shift in public attitudes and behaviours. Hear about the need and opportunity for business to take a stand and how this can be done well.

Purpose Zone

A practical workshop will explore first-hand experiences of leading companies embedding purpose into their business. Exchange insights and learning from our failures and successes. Also join the SparkLab for inspiration and practical advice to cut through barriers and ignite real change in business.

Corporate Social Innovation Zone

Curated with The League of Intrapreneurs, an interactive workshop will explore live examples of how companies are building internal enabling environments to spur and sustain corporate social innovation. Also, join the Smart Influencer coaching session to accelerate your understanding of how to succeed as a change maker in your organisation.

Women's Equality Zone

Curated with CARE, a workshop with experts and business practitioners will share what they’ve learnt about successful approaches to address gender-based violence in the workplace and beyond. A second workshop will focus on how companies are starting to explore the more ingrained issues of power relations between men and women and the global care economy.

Enterprise Zone

Curated with Mercy Corps, a practical workshop will explore how impact for small-scale farmers in large company value chains could be increased through collaborative solutions. In a separate workshop, we will look at the how large companies, governments, donors and civil society can support the success of micro, small and medium enterprises though a more holistic and joined-up approach that strengthens the underlying ecosystem.

Human Rights Zone

Curated with Oxfam, a powerful workshop will explore how consumer engagement can help drive human rights. Share perspectives on how engaging large consumer brands, through a carrot and stick approach, can drive action.  A second workshop will consider how companies can harness technology to tackle modern slavery in their global supply chains.

Partnerships Zone

Curated with The Partnering Initiative and WWF, an interactive workshop will explore next-generation partnering to collectively deliver far more holistic and transformational solutions, and shine a light on barriers and success factors. A second workshop will look at challenging and sometimes dangerous collaborations. Discuss how to retain integrity in partnering, and what to do when partnerships get too close or when red lines are being crossed.
